How did the honitos get together? This is our story!

Charles' side:

One day, before Maria and I were girlfriend and boyfriend, I was giving her a ride back to the place she was living at the time. We were coming from the “Dance to Remember Class” that we conducted at Stanford. I remember she said to me, “Every day I am with you is like a ‘Dance to Remember class.’ This ‘Dance to Remember Class’ was a class I co-created to facilitate the best time ever for Dementia and Alzheimer’s patients with dance, breathing and body movements. The participants seemed to really enjoy it. When Maria told me that she felt this same joy with ME I was overwhelmed and overjoyed by her compliment. Apparently she had seen something special. In the next weeks and months, I kept thinking to myself, “When is the best time to ask her on a date?”. It turned out that it was when she asked me for one! Not long after our first date that she asked me on we really became very interested in being together long term. Now after celebrating an engagement party, sacramental wedding, social wedding, and a sequel to our social wedding (getting married during the pandemic led to multiple later celebrations!) we are celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary! What makes this celebration special is that we will be celebrating this anniversary in the same church we originally got married during the pandemic but this time hopefully with more than ten people!

I will say that our relationship ever since it got started has been like a dance to remember class for our lives; joyful, playful, memorable and with wonderful connections. And probably many more celebrations to come! I love you Honita!

María's side:

I remember that day I saw Charles for the first time, at the Stanford Neuroscience Institute, he seemed so calm, quiet and even a shy person. When he started his "Dance to Remember class” for people with dementia and Alzheimer's, it was all flavor and fun and I loved it. I remember our first date at karaoke. Before leaving my great-uncle’s place, my great uncle asked Charles as a ‘test’ of his genuine interest in karaoke to sing a song to test his singing skills and thus be able to go out with me. I remember that my uncle sang a romantic song popular among the ladies of his generation. Then, Charles sang the song of "Lights" by Journey "and then I sang" With the years that I have left "by Gloria Estefan. However, I can say that our love story It started on that trip to Mount Shasta in California. I thought this would be my last trip since physically I did not feel well at all. And wow, this was one of those trips that you return renewed, motivated and for me I fell in love. A short time later we became a couple. Then I met his family. Then Thanksgiving dinner came, and Christmas, and then our engagement party where my family met Charles's family, relatives came from Mexico and from various states. It was a unique, fun and healthy coexistence. On April 4, 2020, we got married at the San Thomas Aquinas Church in Palo Alto, California, where only 10 people could be present. Our parents, siblings, and friends watched us via zoom. Two years later, we had two parties: "Multicultural Social Wedding" and "Mexican Extravaganza." We really like to dance, sing, and enjoy the parties. My Honey is definitely God's promise in my life. I love you Honito!
